Hypertext is an information management technology whereby the database consists of nodes connected together by links to form networks. The nodes can contain information in the form of text, graphics, image, voice and video. This paper describes the unique features, strengths and weaknesses of hypertext. It highlights the potential contribution of hypertext to the construction of an effective group support system (GSS). Finally, it describes SAGE, a hypertext-based GSS, to illustrate how hypertext features can be incorporated in a GSS to more effectively support decision making groups.
