The paper argues that too much of the focus of attempts to integrate IT into the business curriculum has been on either the acquisition of IT skills or on attempts to use IT to support the teaching process. Whilst accepting that these are necessary developments, it is argued that more attention needs to be placed on the meaning of information. This argument is developed through a review of the potential impacts of IT on the role of the manager. From this review it is argued that more emphasis is needed on embedding information management in the curriculum and that a fundamental underpinning for this is the notion of information literacy. A number of areas for further research and development are outlined.
