Abstract

The Division of Computing Research of the Common-wealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation at Canberra, Australia, has established an extensive multihost computer network, Csironet, to serve its departments located in all parts of Australia. Csironet is a general-purpose network established to provide data transfer, terminal access and resource sharing over a wide area. Although primarily designed to provide a service to Csiro research divisions and to a number of Commonwealth and State government departments, it is also used by some university departments and other government-funded institutions.
