Abstract

With technology having a major impact on the structuring of and activities within organizations, professional staff from various disciplines and backgrounds are finding that their areas of specialization are no longer sacrosanct. Increasingly the need is recognized for such 'experts' to work together to solve complex business information problems. However, it is not always clear to one specialist what contribution others could make in any particular case. A pictorial representation of this situation is therefore presented to exemplify the expertise available and the interplay between certain key 'actors' in the information 'play'. The importance of giving equal weight to the 'information' and 'systems' elements of information systems is emphasized in the context of information resources management.
