Current engines for model-driven transformations do not sufficiently support specifics of automated generation of user interfaces (UIs). For achieving better (graphical) UIs in more specific situations (e.g., a specific small device, or a specific button), more specific rules should be supported, without having to discard the more general ones. For enabling optimization (e.g., for small devices), comparing alternatives is mandatory. Therefore, we present a new and implemented transformation engine for declarative rules specifically designed for model-driven UI generation and optimization as well as its application to various devices and applications. This engine is the basis for advanced UI generation already presented previously, including its results for automatically optimized UIs for smartphones.
