This paper summarizes over 4 yrs of experience in the use of a comprehensive environment for developing and maintaining interactive information systems. The environment evaluated uses an integrated design database to generate applications. The structure of the system is briefly presented, and an evaluation of its operational use is described in four categories: comprehensiveness, productivity, expressiveness, and transportability. Features of the environment that improve performance are identified.
