Abstract

Backhaul traffic aggregation is an important problem in telecommunications. We propose a method of cost optimal traffic aggregation which is based on a modified version of the minimum spanning tree algorithm. The purpose is to route traffic from a set of access nodes to aggregation nodes with minimum total cost of node-to-node connections. Traffic may be routed either directly from access to aggregation nodes or with some intermediate aggregation in access nodes. The cost of connection between two nodes may depend on distance between the nodes and other factors, e.g., equipment cost.
