For the development of a complex mechatronic system, simulation is a highly useful tool. However a single simulation model is unsuitable to cover all of the broad requirements, which range from large scale strategic decisions to real time microsecond processes. For the rail transportation system "RailCab", in development at the University of Paderborn, we present a three component, cascaded approach. The components are linked by the exchange of specific simulation parameters to ensure later integration of the results and model consistency. They promote a holistic prototyping method.
