Methods that enhance homeland security and disaster emergency operations through biometrics and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) were studied. Biometrics can be used in visas and e-passports for border security, identity verification at airports, access control and safety for personnel in basic military training, and security for facilities in troops. RFID technology speeds the movement of people crossing borders, tracks baggage and polices airport access, provides better management of wounded soldiers and supply chains in military, detects unauthorised shipments for marine security, and improves disaster tracking, response and relief operations. Challenges and future work concerning biometrics and RFID in homeland security were also discussed.
