The coloured Petri net formalism has been widely used by scientific community to perform not only research and behavioural analysis of models but also as a simulation tool to carry out systems' analysis. Its characteristics allow a better understanding of the causal relationships present in systems. On the other hand discrete event system simulation software has evolved in order to reduce the efforts needed in simulation projects; the developers have improved the developing paradigm, graphical interface and analysis tools among other aspects. Unfortunately when dealing with big projects the simulation paradigms hinder the understanding of the causal relationships of systems. In this paper a way to integrate the coloured Petri net modelling formalism with the SIMIO simulation software is presented in order to overcome this problem.
