Abstract

The threat imposed by rockets, artillery projectiles and mortar grenades (RAM) is a major hazard for military installations and objects, e.g. in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the problems that has to be solved is the assingnment of weapons to targets (Weapon-Target Assignment Problem WTA). This is one of the classic problems in the field of Operations Research[Ahuja 2003], which still is not solved optimally for all classes of problems. The paper presents a concept of a simulation software for analysing potential threats and, if it is possible to fight them, for determining the engagement strategy using resource allocation algorithms. An event model and process based subsystems are described. Different aspects and restrictions for measuring the quality of the results are discussed.
