In order to make service to be smart, and enable it to be delivered, deployed, invoked, and used in a more intelligent way, agent technology has been introduced in the service composition. Based on the authors' previous related work, the entire life cycle of service composition was investigated. A four layered agent-based service composition framework (ASCF) is proposed. The key functions and services provided by each layer in the proposed ASCF are described in detail.
