Abstract

Machine understanding is an essential and desirable cognitive ability for advanced software agents. In this article, we elaborate on: (1) yet another advanced feature, i. e., multi-understanding that is more than one understanding of an entity and (2) switchable understanding that is selecting one or more of the alternative understandings resulting in a multi-understanding. The rationale for the need and characteristics of multi-understanding as well as switchable understanding are clarified. This article is a background article; hence only the bases are covered.
