In this article is presented a new 3D segmentation method based on a watershed transform. The 2D watershed transform is a method known to provide an oversegmentation of the image but with a good boundaries localisation. The extension of the classical watershed to the 3D case does not lead to the same quality because of local configurations when dealing with multiple materials intersections. A new method giving more precise results is presented. The proposed method is fully described, and results on real case studies are compared to existing watershed methods results.
