Abstract

Recent changes in the OpenGL API have made a substantial impact on the way that we teach computer graphics. If an instructor wishes to teach using only non-deprecated API, it may require a major change in the course structure, and may also require additional supporting code to help students get started. This paper presents some thoughts regarding how to structure a computer graphics course using modern OpenGL, and presents a small, compact, and simple set of supporting tools called OpenGL Training Wheels (GLTW) to aid students when learning modern OpenGL.
