Abstract

Data centers require 40 times the energy requirements of a regular office. Projections show that IT growth will continue to increase, with annual network growth at 45%. Increased energy demand in IT is growing rapidly as the world becomes more industrialized. Increasing energy demands results in an increase in both costs and global warming. To be competitive and a good world citizen means reducing IT energy costs. This poster discusses teaching materials to prepare the educator and the student in this relevant topic. Teaching this subject helps to achieve five ABET program goals, including ethics and local/global impact. It also enables students to experiment with electricity, graphs, and a lab report.
