Cellular Automata (CA) and related paradigms have been recently revitalized by their practical application to novel computational paradigms. Although numerous aspects of CA have been analyzed throughout the last few decades, little has been done on the CA including an external input, which instead adds dramatically important features to the standard model. In this paper, we propose a methodology to analyze thoroughly and rigorously the CA with input, and provide an accurate simulator for experimental purposes. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
