Abstract

An algorithm for computing the covariance matrix for all sub-patches from a covariance matrix computed on larger patches is reported. This method allows for the linear statistics of all patches smaller than a given size to be computed on a very large collection of images while visiting each image once. The principal components of 32 x 32 patches are reported. Two applications for these multi-scale statistics are developed: image super-resolution and image salience.
