Abstract

People who use wheelchairs tend to have lower leisure activity levels compared to the able-bodied population. This is due to several factors such as the feeling of not being capable or lack of accessibility. JeWheels is an exergame intended for wheelchair users, aiming to improve motor-skills and cognitive abilities as well as stimulate physical exercise while having fun. To achieve this, a Kinect based system intended for Windows have been developed using skeletal tracking to capture the body movements, enabling users to control and interact intuitively with the computer without any intermediary controller. Preliminary tests have shown an increase in the users' motivation while playing the game. Feedback was taken from physiotherapists' written observations and user experience questionnaires.
