An efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol for vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is required to satisfy the requirement of diverse applications for VANET, e.g., traffic safety, traffic management and infotainment. The performance of a MAC protocol is affected by high mobility, fast topology change, intermittent change of connectivity. Traditional time division multiple access (TDMA)-based MAC protocols may not cover a dynamic VANET. In this paper, a new TDMA-based MAC protocol is proposed. The proposed MAC protocol tries to satisfy the characteristics of VANET by the optimal decision of the frame size according to the number of vehicle nodes. Simulations show that the proposed MAC protocol outperforms the traditional TDMA MAC protocol with the fixed frame size.
