Abstract

Several computational approaches try to help the researchers to establish the correspondence between pairs of proteins of multiple 2D gel images. In this work, an approach based on block-matching techniques is developed. Its main characteristic is that it does not need to perform the whole alignment between two images considering each protein separately. It can be concluded that this method works over broad range of proteomic images, although they have a high level of difficulty. After matching the proteins between 2D gel images, protein expression profiles must be done and data mining techniques must be applied for extracting non-trivial information from the data obtained. This way, this method can improve the flow of 2D gel analysis in aid of the association studies and the diagnosis. In the future, this information obtained after electrophoresis process can lead to an accurate diagnosis.
