In this paper, the software architecture of the system which supports direct consortial borrowing at the level of University of Novi Sad is described. The software component presented in this paper is developed as a part of the library management system BISIS. The proposed architecture of the component facilitates transparent communication of client and server side of the circulation system regardless network environment. That means that client application will work in the same manner regardless of the different network configurations. Also, architecture of the software component is based on various design patterns in order to produce flexible, elegant, reusable, scalable and easy to maintain software component.
