I just returned from California after attending the Second SIGSOFT/SIGPLAN ACM Symposium on Practical Software Development Environments held December 9-12 in Palo Alto. I feel the meeting was very successful and served its main purposes - to access the current state of the art in the environments area and to help define the important issues which must still be addressed. An objective evaluation of the symposium by Karl Reed is included in this subsection and I will present my overall views shortly.
