A simple model-based PI-PD control method is proposed for stable and unstable processes. Initially, the proportional-derivative PD controller is used to stabilise the process and then, proportional-integral PI controller parameters are estimated using the particle swarm optimisation PSO algorithm. The PSO is the stochastic evolutionary techniques that are used to find the global optimum solution in a search space that is divided into different sub-search spaces. In each sub-search spaces, the optimal value of local minima and global minima are estimated using a random particle position and random velocity. The minimum of the optimal values of the sub-search spaces is taken as the optimal value of total search space. Simulation results have been considered to verify the proposed algorithm for stable and unstable processes.
