Modeling supports the fundamental strategy of dividing problems into component parts, solving each part, and linking the solutions together. We discuss the concepts and capabilities necessary to build modular network simulation languages and apply them to problem solving. Necessary modeling constructs are defined as a part of a new modular network simulation language, ModNet, and examples are given.
