During the last decade, maps became ubiquitously available. However, maps are not yet recognized as fully interactive interfaces to geographic information, but rather as a background for information rendered on top of them. Possibilities for interaction are typically implemented as generic interaction methods for graphical content and it often requires complex combinations of them to get the desired information. In this paper we introduce DistanceTouch, a task-specific and intuitive query gesture for distance approximation implemented in OpenScienceMap.
