Data analysis in the frequency domain is very relevant in many applications. This paper describes a new implementation of a frequency domain data path based on a modification of the Goertzel algorithm that, at the expense of a reduced accuracy, avoids any multiplication in the digital processing of the signal. This translates into power savings and smaller silicon area. The new algorithm is useful when there are die area constrains, an exact value of the power is not required, frequency of interest is very low compared to the sampling frequency, and a low number of bins are relevant for the application.
