Abstract

In low- to medium-income homes, indoor air quality is a significant factor with regards to both respiratory and overall health. In this paper, we discuss a proof-of-concept design that provides an open-hardware/open-software solution for the monitoring of indoor air quality in new and existing homes. Our commitment to open hardware challenges the traditional approach to environmental sensing, and the difficulties we encountered in our work suggest critical strategies for those who would pursue similar work in this or related areas of research.
