In May of 1995 Wells Fargo Bank became the first bank to make customer accounts accessible over the Internet. The system, called Online Banking, uses a secure Web server to provide balances and account history to registered bank customers. Building the system provided the author and his team with several insights into designing secure systems, especially for a large institution of the financial industry.
