Abstract

This paper presents some of the issues we have encountered in the development and implementation of Australia's first undergraduate degree in Multimedia within a faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. It is designed to stimulate discussion about the academic directions of multimedia undergraduate education. As a means to achieving this, the paper will present an overview of three levels of multimedia activity and an overview of current research areas in multimedia. This paper then assesses the likely intellectual tools required by graduates in multimedia to ensure the long-term viability of their learning during the undergraduate degree. Finally some possible directions will be presented for further discussion.
