Abstract

A multilevel minimum residual-type procedure for an adaptive finite element (FE) solution of a general nonlinear differential problem is analyzed with respect to linearization and adaptive FE approximation errors. Simple sufficient conditions for the linear and quadratic convergence to the exact solution of the original problem with increasing number of levels are established. A nontrivial numerical example illustrates the efficiency of the method.
