There are many possible amplitudesand phases, or amplitude-modulations and frequency-modulations(AM and FM), that can generate a given signal. Of the many methodsavailable for determining the AM and FM of a signal, some yieldan unbounded AM for some magnitude-bounded signals (includingthe analytic signal method). The consequences of requiring abounded AM given a bounded signal on the method used to determinethe AM and FM are examined.
