Abstract

A system has been developed for choosing the best tool or language for the development of a particular knowledge-based application. The expert system determines what features the tool should have by asking the user about (1) the size, type and complexity of the application; (2) hardware requirements; (3) interface and graphics needs; (4) knowledge representation techniques. The system then concludes with a list of one or more appropriate tools or languages, their costs, and the addresses of vendors, and their features. Persons with little experience in knowledge engineering can use the system successfully by taking advantage of explanation facilities. The system has been developed on a Zenith AT compatible microcomputer using INSIGHT 2+. The presentation will include a discussion of the design, implementation, and use of the system.
