The specifications for a General Information Management (GIM) system are given. A GIM system is defined as a generic information system which is information independent, question-type independent, bounded in retrieval time, secure, efficient, and modularly designed. The SOLID system, whose basis is a general data-manipulation language called JOBLIST, is described and shown to meet the requirements of a GIM system.
