Two relatively new technologies have enhanced computer applications development through the combined use of video and audio data and an intelligent interface between the computer and user. The visual and audio data come from the use of laser optical technologies in the form of videodisc and/or compact disk read-only memory (CD ROM). The intelligent interface comes from the use of expert systems technology. The purpose of the paper is to present an applications development system which combines the use of laser optical media and expert systems. The following sections highlight the laser optical system and intelligent interface capabilities and the application tools.
