Abstract

Doppler Monte Carlo (DMC) simulations of the transport of lightthrough turbid media, e.g., tissue, can be used to predict or tointerpret measurements of the blood perfusion of tissue bylaser-Doppler perfusion flowmetry. We describe the physical andmathematical background of Doppler Monte Carlo calculations, andpresent some comparisons with measurements, performed withexperimental flow models, built to mimic skin tissuecharacteristics and for the calibration of perfusioninstruments, which are important goals of the Biomed-I concertedaction. The measurements deal with coherence effects.
