Abstract

In this paper, we outline our constraint-based model for configuring and reconfiguring industrial products as well as some aspects of its prototypical implementation ConBaCon (Constraint-Based Configuration). ConBaCon overcomes the deficits of existing commercial configuration systems. Problems remain in the case of large products/ technical systems. As one way of tackling this, we present a clustering approach within the ConBaCon model that allows large configuration problems to be efficiently solved by substantially reducing the amount of constraint variables and constraints needed.
