Abstract

The performance of modern computing devices and networks allows the consideration of applications which integrate various real time media, such as video and audio, into a distributed computing system. Applications can be identified which need to manipulate the media data in real time; to provide such an environment presents new challenges to systems designers. This paper presents some of the experiences from our previous work with distributed multimedia, identifies some system requirements and describes the work which is under way to investigate these needs.
