This research focuses on understanding the failures of speech-based navigation as it exists in state-of-the-art speech recognition software. A detailed analysis of failure rates, reasons commands fail, and consequences of these failures in the allowed for the identification of three specific improvements to spech-based navigation. Results from a follow-up study are reported, indicating that each of the three improvements reduced failure rates.
