From the Book:I wrote this SONET book for the same reason that I have written all of my other books. That is, I was fundamentally dissatisfied with the books I could find on the subject. When it came to SONET, there were books that were quite technically detailed at the byte level, but contained vendor or service provider information. Others provided details on the marketing of SONET, but almost nothing about how TLI is currently used to manage SONET networks. Few mentioned things like wavelength division multiplexing. I took good notes, talked to lots of people, and put everything into this SONET book. The bits and bytes are still here, of course, but not down to the last jot and tittle. Instead, the emphasis is on working with SONET I hope this book appeals to SONET designers, installers, operators, maintainers, and (above all) users and customers. There is much in here for all.
