Abstract

From the Publisher:The inflexibility of the wired connection between customer and the nearest switching centre is no longer a condition that has to be accepted at face value. The pressure for greater flexibility both in bandwidth allocation but also in geographical terms opened up the new application area of Wireless Local Loop. WLL systems tend to be used by monopoly or dominant public telephone network operators in areas with poor cable infrastructure, and by new competing operators in 'deregulated markets' keen to build their own access network infrastructure. To date, Wireless Local Loops has not been given proper attention as a unique technical area. This volume provides the necessary special treatment of WLL as an area of Mobile and Wireless systems with its own constraints and technical requirements. · Covers all areas of analysis and design as well as possible services and management of Wireless Local Loops · Written by leading authorities throughout Europe, US and Japan in the field of wireless communications A timely reference resource for researchers and development engineers in telecommunications; service providers and manufacturers, as well as for lecturers and postgraduates of telecommunications courses.
