Abstract

Database management systems are widely used in business data processing to automate many low-level tasks. However, they are not powerful enough to be used as database managers for advanced applications such as tactical weapons systems, industrial manufacturing systems, and integrated corporate information systems. This paper addresses the issues related to developing database systems capable of providing full data management support for advanced application areas. Specifically, the paper will list the requirements of an advanced database manager and present our effort in designing a database management system for computer integrated manufacturing.
