In this paper, a dietary recommendation expert system known as DIET is developed for dietitians. Dietary information on patients obtained from the five categories: demographics, laboratory results, medical conditions, medications, and eating characteristics are examined to make dietary plans. To combine the effects of each condition, a composition approach is adopted to find the most appropriate diet. DIET is written in OPS5. With the structure of DIET and the method of knowledge representation using OPS5, the current version of DIET can easily be expanded or modified for different areas to use.
