Abstract

There is a need for widespread exchange of electronic documents in domains as diverse as book publishing, automated offices, factories, and research laboratories. The broad variety of data representations, particularly data created by wysiwyg word processors, is an obstacle to this exchange. This paper describes how the Chameleon translation-generation system accommodates this class of electronic documents. A comparison to an existing commercial product, with similar functionality, is also presented.
