In recent years the software industry has undergone rapid growth, yet little is known about the software acquisition process. This study examines the relationship between the acquisition of large data base management systems (DBMSs) and several characteristics of organizations and their personnel. Seven hypothesis related to the adoption of DBMSs are tested through a survey and the results are reported.
