Abstract

Game construction is of importance in disciplines where programming expertise is generally lacking. An experimental implementation of an instructional gaming system, APLGAME, has been developed for use within IBM. It is based on the APL system and features two modes: Author and Player. Both modes are conversational and terminal oriented. The Author Mode enables the author to construct a game scenario by natural language communication and prompting. It utilizes the concept of frame presentation. The Player Mode presents the scenario to the player.Application of APLGAME is illustrated by an experimental instructional game, The Ecology Decision Game.
