Abstract

A well-known research challenge is the establishment of some quality of service in an ad hoc network. Such a fluid and dynamic environment does not lend itself to extensive state-building approachess like Intserv. Diffserv, in which packets are treated according to some class aggregation seems to be a better match. Diffserv provides strong guarantees to applications by being mainly based on admission control, policing and provisioning. In this paper, we present the "Equivalent Differentiated Services" (EDS) per-hop behavior. EDS provides a set of best-effort services with differentiated performances. We show how EDS could benefit ad hoc networks.
