As an innovative tutorial, this paperconducts a comprehensive investigation into theconceptualism and methodology of large complexsystems (LCS). Firstly, in the conceptualism ofLCS, intrinsic attributes of LCS areidentified, a human/machine unifiedepistemology is proposed for LCS, a taxonomy ofLCS is developed, and the evolution of controlsynthesis from continuous-variate real-timecontrol systems to LCS is derived. Furthermore,in the methodology of LCS, the problem ofmacrostructural modelization of LCS isformulated, and a description based model isproposed and established for LCS. Finally, aunified framework based analysis is presentedon three typical examples of LCS to generallyillustrate the conceptualism and methodology ofLCS.
