Fixturing is one of the important steps involved in process planning for machining. This paper deals with finding fixturing features from the design and machining features in a feature-based CAD system. A methodology for consideration of forces and moments generated during machining are presented for drilling and milling processes. The maximum forces and moments generated are primarily used to find fixturing features like supporting, locating, and clamping features. A feature-based approach to fixturing analysis is ideally suited in a CAD/CAM/CAE system based on feature-based design and analysis.
