Abstract

While the fundamental business-to-business (e.g. supply chain) trading model has not significantly changed in hundreds, if not thousands, of years, many of the underlying business processes and trading practices have changed and continue to evolve. In some cases, these changes have been more successful than others. While the primary purpose to this paper is to discuss the effect of Internet-based electronic commerce on supply chain business processes and trading practices, if also provides a historical review of electronic commerce. As George Santayana once said: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
